Usage Quantity Meters
Usage quantity meters track the duration or volume of service usage by measuring a rated usage quantity.
A usage quantity meter counts a service usage amount in a specific measurement unit. The usage
quantity can be one of:
- Actual Duration — Use the entire duration of a session, including any stops between, for example, when a streaming video is paused and resumed at a later time.
- Active Duration — Use the active duration of a session, excluding any stops between.
- Monetary — Use the amount of currency spent during usage.
- Total Data — Use the total quantity of data sent (out_data) and received (in_data) during usage. If the total_data field value is not set in the network message, MATRIXX Engine sets it by adding together the in_data and out_data values.
- In Data — Use the total quantity of data received from the client during usage.
- Out Data — Use the total quantity of data sent to the client during usage.
- Service Specific — Use the custom usage quantity type specified.
A usage meter is incremented if it tracks the usage
specified in the service type definition for the service being rated. The network might
report several quantity types, but only one is chosen for rating, based on this
configuration. For example, if a meter is measuring the in_data but the rated quantity
that is reported is total data (in_data plus out_data), the meter does not apply.
Measured usage meters are often used to limit a usage amount on a periodic basis, for
example, to limit daily, monthly, and total voice minutes a subscriber or group uses.
Note: The rated usage quantity is not necessarily the quantity reported in the
Diameter Credit Control (CC) application.
To configure a usage amount meter, when creating or editing a meter template, you must select Usage Quantity in the Measured Quantity list in the Meter Details tab.
