Recording Updates to Meters

Meters are used during rating. If an operator wants to use meter impact information for post-processing, the operator can record updates to meters (meter impacts) in Event Detail Records (EDRs).

For example, the Sales department might use meter impact information for analytics purposes (to analyze a certain type of service usage), or the Support department might use it for generating reports that help customer service representatives (CSRs) resolve subscriber billing disputes.

When you record updates to a meter in EDRs, the following information about the meter is recorded.

  • The meter template.
  • The device ID (if it is a device-specific meter).
  • The amount by which the meter moved.

You specify whether to record updates to a meter in EDRs when you create the meter in My MATRIXX by selecting Update Required In Event on the Meter Details tab.

  • Select Update Required In Event so that the Charging Application writes the meter impact to the EDR.
  • Deselect Update Required In Event so that the Charging Application does not write the meter impact to the EDR. The meter is used for rating but the operator has no use for meter-impact information during post-processing.

Recording updates to many meters might impact rating performance.

For instructions on how to create a meter, see the discussion about creating a meter template in My MATRIXX Help.
