About this task
Configure meter details in Edit Meter when creating or changing a meter template. For information about creating and
changing meter templates, see the discussions about creating and changing meter
templates. For a description of the Meter Details options, see the discussion about meter template properties.
Note: If you enter
conflicting input values when defining your template, the associated template
tabs are highlighted and an error displays for each set of conflicting input
values. The error displays until the conflicts are resolved.
Procedure
- In Service Type, select the service associated with the meter. To have the meter track all services, select all.
- In Measured Quantity, select Usage Quantity.
-
Select meter types:
- Session Meter — Session meters track
charges or usage throughout the duration of a usage session and are only
valid for impacts during that session.Note: Session meters cannot be aggregate meters used by group members. Do not select Aggregate in the meter template. Session meters do not support notifications of any type, including meter creation notifications, meter expiration notifications, recurring failure notifications, and credit limit notifications. Do not define any of these notification types in the meter template.
- Turnstile — By default, meters are incremented by a measured usage quantity or a charge quantity. Turnstile meters, unlike the default meters, are updated by an amount of one (1) each time a charge or a usage session occurs, regardless of the measured quantity.
- Session Meter — Session meters track
charges or usage throughout the duration of a usage session and are only
valid for impacts during that session.
- Deselect Update Required In Event to disable recording any updates to the meter in the Event Detail Record (EDR). This is valid for services configured with event aggregation EDRs.
-
To select Has Period Close, you must first configure the
Periodic tab:
- Click the Meter Details tab.
-
Select Has Period Close to
close the period after the configured amount of time has elapsed after the end
of the period.
After a period closes, no updates are made to the meter. Any usage or charges that would update the meter after the period is closed are made to the current period.
-
In Quantity
Selector, select the usage quantity to which the meter applies:
- Actual Duration — Use the entire duration of a session, including any stops between, for example, when a streaming video is paused and resumed at a later time.
- Active Duration — Use the active duration of a session, excluding any stops between.
- Monetary — Use the amount of currency spent during usage.
- Total Data — Use the total quantity of data sent
(
out_data
) and received (in_data
) during usage. If thetotal_data
field value is not set in the network message, the MATRIXX Engine sets it by adding together thein_data
andout_data
values. - In Data — Use the total quantity of data received from the client during usage.
- Out Data — Use the total quantity of data sent to the client during usage.
- Service Specific — Use the custom usage quantity type specified.
-
In Units,
select the measurement unit which the usage quantity meter tracks. This unit can
be different than the unit defined for the balance. For example, the balance
unit can be megabytes and the meter unit can be bytes.
Turnstile meters, which are defined to count a usage or charge occurrence, do not have a quantity unit.
-
Click Save.
Note: If you change any values in these fields, you must click Save.
