Configure Charged Amount Meter Details

In Meter Details, you can configure a charged amount meter.

About this task

Configure meter details in Edit Meter when creating or changing a meter template. For information about creating and changing meter templates, see the discussions about creating and changing meter templates. For a description of the Meter Details options, see the discussion about meter template properties.
Note: If you enter conflicting input values when defining your template, the associated template tabs are highlighted and an error displays for each set of conflicting input values. The error displays until the conflicts are resolved.

Procedure

  1. In Service Type, select the service associated with the meter. To have the meter track all services, select all.
  2. In Measured Quantity, select Charged Amount.
  3. Select meter types:
    • Session Meter — If you are creating a session meter, the following limitations apply:
      • Session meters cannot be aggregate meters used by group members. Do not select Aggregate in the meter template.
      • Session meters do not support notifications of any type, including meter creation notifications, meter expiration notifications, recurring failure notifications, and credit limit notifications. Do not define any of these notification types in the meter template.
    • Turnstile — By default, meters are incremented by a measured usage quantity or a charge quantity. Turnstile meters, unlike the default meters, are updated by an amount of one (1) each time a charge or a usage session occurs, regardless of the measured quantity.
  4. Deselect Update Required In Event to disable recording any updates to the meter in the Event Detail Record (EDR). This is valid for services configured with event aggregation EDRs.
  5. To select Has Period Close, you must first configure the Periodic tab:
    1. Click the Periodic tab.
    2. In Periodic, select Periodic.
    3. Complete the remaining required fields.
    4. Click Save.
For more information about configuring the Periodic tab, see the discussion about configuring meter template periodic meter.
  6. Click the Meter Details tab.
  7. In Balance to Normalize, click Select Balance.
  8. In Balance Class, select the balance class. Meters that track a balance class are incremented when charges are applied to any balance instance of that class.
  9. In Use a balance option, specify whether to use a balance or a balance tag by doing one of the following:
    • To select a balance template, click Use Balance, and select the associated Balance.
    • To select a balance tag, click Use Balance Tag, and select the associated Balance Tag.
  10. Click Select.
  11. In Units, select the measurement unit the meter tracks. This unit can be different than the unit defined for the balance. For example, the balance unit can be megabytes and the meter unit can be bytes.
  12. Click Save.
Note: If you change any values in these fields, you must click Save.
