Configure Balance Template Adaptive Quota Management Reservations

Balances affected by services that use the Balance Accuracy Feedback (BAF) feature and, optionally, the Adaptive Quota Management (AQM) feature can have optional values set for how balance reservations are handled during quota authorization.

About this task

Configure AQM reservation settings in Edit Balance when creating or changing a balance template. For information about creating and changing balance templates, see the discussions about creating balance templates and changing balance templates.

Note: If you enter conflicting input values when you define your template, the associated template tabs are highlighted and an error shows for each set of conflicting input values. The error shows until the conflicts are resolved.

Procedure

  1. In AQM Reservations, configure the following fields:
    • Max Reservation Time (seconds) — The maximum number of seconds for which a reservation is valid. If AQM is enabled, this value shapes the quota size and validity time.
    • Max Per Context Reserved Amount — The maximum amount of this balance or periodic balance entry that can be reserved by any one service context per session.
    • Max Total Reserved Amount — The maximum amount that can be reserved against this balance by all service contexts in a session. This value acts as a credit limit that rejects any usage that exceeds this total reserved amount.

For information about AQM, see the discussion about Adaptive Quota Management in MATRIXX Diameter Integration.

  2. To use the Balance Threshold Feedback (BTF) feature, in Adaptive Threshold Scale Factor, enter the value that controls the distance before a threshold at which the quota drops from default authorization or reauthorization values to the minimum authorization or reauthorization values. This value must be greater than or equal to 1.0.

The threshold scale factor provides a buffer if more subscribers request quota. For example, a value of 2 makes it appear that subscribers are two times closer to the threshold than they are. This causes AQM to start issuing smaller quotas twice as early as it otherwise would, and doing so more gradually because it has more time to slow down.

If the Adaptive Threshold Scale Factor attribute is also defined for a service type or context type, the value defined for the balance or meter overrides the value in the service type XML configuration. For information about BTF, see the discussion about Balance Threshold Feedback in MATRIXX Diameter Integration.
