Default Credit Limits and Thresholds

Default credit limit and notification thresholds are defined in balance and meter templates and provide a system-wide mechanism to ensure subscribers are limited to a maximum spending amount. They enable corporations to comply with bill shock regulations currently enforced in the European Union.

Bill shock is an unexpected increase in a subscriber's monthly bill that is not due to a change in the subscriber's service plan. Wireless phone companies are required to alert customers when they are approaching and reaching plan limits and when they are incurring roaming charges. MATRIXX provides this capability with real-time notifications and credit limit enforcement. Subscribers can be notified about rate changes and can be stopped from gross overuse of services of which they are not aware.

When you create a balance template or meter template, you can define default thresholds, including a default credit limit and any number of default notifications. Use the defaults to enforce compliance with corporate regulations or spending policies that impact the majority of subscribers. You can also set whether the values can be overridden when the template instance is added to a wallet by setting one of the following values:
  • Locked — The default values cannot be changed.
  • Unlocked — The default values can be overridden by personal and group balance thresholds. The values can be higher than the default values set by the operator.

Default thresholds adhere to catalog item correction rules. A correction to a default threshold takes effect on the date specified and affects both existing subscribers and new subscribers.
