Tax Exemption

A list of exemption codes can be specified in the CCH tax data, including effective dates. For example, define exemption codes for charity and private foundations. The Charging Server uses the tax exemption code, customer type, and geocode (calculated from the service address or NPA-NXX) during tax calculation to determine whether the customer is exempt from paying the taxes.

During rating calculation, if the Charging Server determines the subscriber or group has any applicable exemption codes and is exempt from paying a tax or tax fee, the taxes and tax fees are not applied, and the exemption code is returned in the Event Detail Records (EDR). For more information about EDRs generated during US taxation, see the discussion about US tax events, notifications, and queries.

For more information about events generated during US taxation of purchase offer, cancel offer, and estimated recurring charge, see the discussion about US tax events, notifications, and queries.
