5G Policy Overview

The MATRIXX Policy Application provides the business logic and integration into a third-party Policy Control Function (PCF) to support real-time policy decisions and rules. It enables your PCF to deliver flexible policy and charging control rules to your 5G network.

The 5G MATRIXX Converged Charging Server (CCS) integrates policy support using MATRIXX Engine and SBA Gateway. SBA Gateway acts as the Charging Function (CHF) interfacing with external Session Management Functions (SMFs) for policy control. The PCFs are part of your 5G network and are external to MATRIXX.

The CHF offers Nchf_SpendingLimitControl (N28) communication to the PCF to deliver spending limit control service that the PCF can use to get policy counters and subscribe to spending limit reporting.

For information about the N40 communication between your SMF and MATRIXX and how it can affect your policies, see the discussion about the SBA Gateway overview in MATRIXX 5G Integration.
