- About MATRIXX Policy
  MATRIXX Policy describes the tasks that must be completed to configure MATRIXX Policy Application functionality and provides overviews, recommendations, and conceptual discussions to help you understand these tasks. In addition, it describes the supported Diameter policy AVPs and MATRIXX Policy Application SubMan APIs.
- 5G Policy Overview
  The 5G MATRIXX Policy Application provides the business logic and integration into a 3rd party policy control function (PCF) to support real-time policy decisions and rules. It enables your PCF to deliver flexible policy and charging control rules to your 5G network.
- 3G/4G Policy Overview
  The 3G/4G MATRIXX Policy Application runs on top of the Application module and provides the business logic to support real-time policy decisions and rules. It allows charging and network quality of service (QoS) to be flexibly and dynamically linked to customer, service, and network parameters.
- 3G/4G Policy Configuration
  Policy configuration in My MATRIXX includes both Gx and Sy configuration.
  - Gx Policy Configuration
    MATRIXX Policy Application for Gx monitors normalized subscriber parameters and indicates which policies should be applied in one or more Policy and Charging Enforcement Functions (PCEFs).
  - Spending Limit Control Policy Configuration
    MATRIXX Policy Application monitors balance ranges from balance normalizers. A policy is rechecked when balances are updated, or when any attribute of a subscriber or device is updated. MATRIXX Policy Application is optimized to quickly detect if a balance update affects a policy.
  - Policy Gx RAR and Sy SNR Messages
    Gx RARs are sent to the PCEF or Sy SNRs are sent to the PCRF when MATRIXX Policy Application determines that there has been a policy change.
  - Gy Re-Auth-Request (RAR) Message
    MATRIXX Engine sends a Re-Auth Request (RAR) to the network for a subscriber-management (SubMan) request, an open session is perceived as inactive, or on content quota expiration.
  - Sh Repository Configuration
    When using the Sh protocol, the PCRF sends an Sh SNR. MATRIXX Engine assumes one active Sh subscription per device, consisting of one Sh SNR per subscription (with the same Session-Id). If a subscription is already active, a second Sh SNR for that same subscription is handled as a duplicate of the original, while an SNR for a different subscription logs a warning and replaces the current one. Re-using the Session-Id of a currently inactive subscription activates a new subscription with that same ID.

  The SubMan APIs include session query, session validation, and session delete APIs for charging and policy sessions.
- Sy Policy Counter APIs
  The Sy policy counter APIs include MtxRequestDeviceEvaluatePolicyCounterSet and MtxRequestDeviceQuerySession.
- 3G/4G MATRIXX Policy Failover
  A MATRIXX Policy failover can be due to a hard failure or can be planned.
- Policy Profile Selection
  During policy profile selection, product offers are evaluated in descending order from highest to lowest priority and policy profiles collected for Sy and N28 policy counters, Gx command-level QoS, and N40 TIME_LIMIT and VOLUME_LIMIT usage triggers.
- Diameter AVPs for MATRIXX Policy Application
  MATRIXX Engine supports the Sy and Gx interfaces for policy control.

3G/4G Policy Configuration

Policy configuration in My MATRIXX includes both Gx and Sy configuration.

You configure global system policy by answering the create_config.info policy questions and running the create_config.py script.

3G/4G Look Ahead Interval

You use Rule-Activation-Time and Rule-Deactivation-Time in Charging-Rule-Install AVP to report changes to Gx policies within the look ahead window. When the Charging-Rule-Install AVP includes both the Rule-Activation-Time and Rule-Deactivation-Time, the Rule-Activation-Time is set for each rule. There can be multiple current rules, and the next rule change can include one of them or multiple. For more information about the look ahead window, see the discussion about look ahead window for session management.

Configure the 3G/4G look ahead interval by entering a value when asked the create_config.info question:

Global:Session:Policy:Notify:How long (in minutes) is the policy evaluation look ahead time?

Select the default value of 1440 to set the look ahead interval to 1 day. Now specify whether to always include the Rule-Activation-Time AVP in Gx credit control and re-authorization messages along with PCC rules by answering y to the create_config.info question:

Global:Session:Policy:Notify:Include the Rule-Activation-Time for a PCC rule to always be included in Gx messages (y/n)?

If you answer n to this question, you must answer the Gx Rule-Activation-Time question:

Global:Session:Policy:Notify:How long (in seconds) is the time range within which the Rule-Activation-Time 
for a PCC rule should not be included in Gx messages?
